A manhunt is underway for a man who allegedly shot a woman in south suburban Country Club Hills early Thursday morning.

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are looking for the person who shot his girlfriend and went on the run with his 8-year-old son in tow.

Country Club Hills police are searching for Robert Donald, who may be armed and dangerous, and who allegedly shot a woman in the south suburb early Thursday morning.

He is driving a red 2011 Ford Taurus with license plate Z558610, police said.

Witnesses said the woman was shot on the sidewalk in the 1100-block of Williamsburg Road around 4 a.m. Neighbors who wanted to remain anonymous said she was fighting with a man, telling him to get out of the house, before they heard gunfire.

One neighbor ran out and helped apply pressure to the wound in her side. The victim was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she underwent surgery. A neighbor in contact with the victim's family said she is expected to survive.

Several homes in the quiet neighborhood were taped off for the investigation.

"My concern is for our kids, making sure everyone is OK in the neighborhood. Knocking on people's doors making sure they're OK and everyone knows what's going on," said Aja Reed, a neighbor.

"Working mom. Hard working lady. Takes care of her kids," Shakita Reed, another neighbor, said of the victim.

Anyone who sees a car matching the description of the suspect's vehicle should call Country Club Hills police immediately.
