Man drowns in Chicago River near Columbus Drive

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man in his 20s drowned in the Chicago River early Friday morning, police said.

Rescue crews pulled the man's body from the water near the bridge at Columbus Drive just after midnight.

Paramedics performed CPR, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.His identity has not yet been released.

The victim's friends said they were hanging out and he decided to go for a swim.
