Step Up hosts 6th annual Shine and Dine

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Mentorship-focused local nonprofit Step Up will host its 6th annual Shine and Dine on Thursday, Aug. 11, featuring 15 tasting stations from Chicago top eateries while highlighting honorees and raising funds for Step Up's mentorship programs.

Step Up's mission is to propel teen girls from under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential by empowering them to become confident, college-bound and career focused.

In the last year, through its more than 300 local, professional female mentors, Step Up has been able to enroll 335 of Chicago's teen girls into after-school and weekend mentorship programs.

As first Lady Michelle Obama has stated, mentoring has a crucial influence in shaping the next generation of American women. Step Up is successfully doing that.

The idea is to always connect different women and different girls so they learn about new career possibilities rather than only working with one mentor.
