Disney's Princess Elena of Avalor makes Magic Kingdom debut

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Princess Elena of Avalor made her royal debut Thursday at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

Elena is Disney's first Latina princess. She's the star of a new animated TV series on the Disney channel, which premiered on July 22.

The character is described as "thoughtful, resilient, and compassionate."

Princess Elena was featured in a giant window display on Chicago's Magnificent Mile in June, about a month before the show hit the small screen.

Actress Jenna Ortega, who voices Elena's younger sister Princess Isabel on the show, was in Chicago for the unveiling.
