AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- U.S. Route 30 reopened at the line between southwest suburban Aurora and Oswego after a serious crash involving a car and a semi.

City officials said at about 5 p.m., a Hyundai Elantra traveling westbound on Heggs Road may have attempted to turn left onto Route 30 in front of a semi and was hit. Both vehicles then ended up by the side of the road in a ditch.

A 33-year-old woman was extricated from the Elantra by emergency responders and taken to an Aurora hospital with serious injuries. Officials said she is expected to survive.

The driver of the semi, a 58-year-old man, was not injured.

Aurora police and Illinois State Police are investigating the crash. No citations have been issued as of Thursday night. Officials said they did not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.
