CHICAGO (WLS) --Chicagoans woke up to gorgeous skies over Lake Michigan Thursday morning. While the water may be beautiful to look at, strong winds will make it dangerous to swim in.
A beach hazard statement will be in effect throughout the day Thursday for counties along the lake in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, the National Weather Service said.
Gusty winds out of the north are expected to reach 10-20 mph and create dangerous swimming conditions. Waves will be 4-7 feet high and strong rip currents are expected.
Thursday is also expected to be a much cooler day than Chicago has seen in the last several days. High temperatures are expected to be in the low 70s and isolated showers are possible in the late morning or early afternoon. Partly sunny skies and breezy conditions are expected for the rest of the day.
For those planning to head to the beach Thursday, enjoy the view from the sand and avoid the water.
