NORTHBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- Mesa Urbana opened its doors just 7 months ago, and it's already making a splash on the culinary scene. Featuring an eclectic menu of Mexican Fusion dishes, the restaurant in Northbrook gives guests taste they may not find anywhere else. Mesa Urbana focuses on shared plates, that allow communal dining and are easier for groups to share and are meant for multiple groups of people at once. Owner Moe Taleb and Chef Eusebio Garcia joined ABC 7 to give a taste of some of their offerings.
RECIPES
Short Rib Taco and Fish (Grouper) Taco Recipes
Ingredients:
6oz shredded short ribs
3oz Guajillo sauce (can be bought in Grocery Store)
2oz pickled sweet peppers
2oz Brussel sprout leaves
Salt-to taste
Black pepper-to taste
4 small tortillas
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Pan seer the short ribs
In a large pot, combine
Ribs
Salt and pepper
Cut carrots (2-3 stalks)
Cut celery (2-3 stalks)
Garlic
Bay leaves
Cover with water
Cook for 2 hours
To build the tacos:
Warm the 4 tortillas on a flat grill or hot pan
Add the cooked short-rip on the tortillas
Add sliced fresh sweet chili pepper
Add Brussel sprouts leaves
Pan Seared Grouper Tacos
Ingredients:
6oz grouper fillet
10oz caper aioli
2oz shaved cabbage
2oz pineapple relish
1 tbs lemon vinaigrette
avocado
Salt to taste
Black pepper-to taste
4 small tortil
Directions:
A: Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Heat a sauté pan with olive oil on a stove
Add the grouper fillet and sautéed both side
Put the pan with the grouper in the oven for 8 min
B: Combine the shaved cabbage with the pineapple relish, lemon vinaigrette = Tropical Pico de gallo
To build the tacos:
Warm the 4 tortillas on a flat grill or hot pan
Add the cooked grouper
Add caper aioli
Add the tropical Pico de gallo
Add a slice of fresh avocado
