LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. (WLS) -- Police arrested a 22-year-old Vernon Hills man they said was armed with a knife after he tried to escape by running through a crowded high school football stadium.

Lincolnshire and Vernon Hills police responded to a reported domestic battery incident at 8 p.m. Friday night in Vernon Hills, police said. The man, who was reportedly armed with a knife and possibly suicidal, was not at the location when police arrived and was last seen headed in the direction of Stevenson High School.

A man matching the description of the subject was spotted outside the stadium at Stevenson High School at about 8:35 p.m., police said. Security asked him to remain outside, but the man did not comply and entered the stadium.

After Lincolnshire police arrived, they ordered the man to stop and he ran toward the crowd-filled bleachers, police said. Police pursued the man into the bleachers and used a Taser device on him as he attempted to exit the bleachers toward the field, police said.

The man, identified as Denzel King, was taken into custody without further incident, police said. He was charged with one count of resisting arrest and one count of criminal trespass, both misdemeanors.

A knife was recovered at the scene, police said.
