CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police are investigating a woman's body found in an alley in the city's West Rogers Park neighborhood.

Police said they received a call shortly before 2 p.m. that a woman was found dead in an alley in the 6100-block of North Maplewood Avenue.

A woman who lives on the block said she encountered the body, which was face down, as she was trying to leave her garage and she immediately called police.

Police said they are currently conducting a death investigation. They described the victim as a white woman in her 40s or 50s, and said there was no sign of trauma to her body.

Neighbors said it's been a quiet day and they did not hear any commotion in the alley.

"I didn't hear anything and I don't have - I had my windows open, and I didn't hear anything," said Brad Hytrek, a neighbor who was working from home at the time of the woman's death.

"It's surprising. It's not something we expect in a quiet neighborhood like this but I'm hopeful it's not foul play," said neighbor Joe Propst.

The immediate circumstances around her death were unclear. Police have not released any further details including cause of death, the woman's identity or whether or not she lives close by.
