Mom stabs, kills 8-week-old son in apparent murder-suicide, police say

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A mother and her 8-week-old son died from stab wounds in an apparent murder-suicide at their home Tuesday morning, Long Beach police said.

Authorities responded to a possible suicide attempt call in the 1500-block of Park Avenue around 6:35 a.m. When police arrived, they found two people unconscious and not breathing with multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

Both people were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the victim, identified as Shane Ventanilla, was killed by his mother, 36-year-old Charlene Ventanilla.

Ken Ventanilla, Charlene's husband, was the person who came home and found his son and wife, authorities said.
