Hand, foot and mouth disease reported at Grayslake Central High School

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- According to school officials, a few students have reported symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease at Grayslake Central High School.

The students who reported those symptoms were sent home by a school nurse, which is part of the school district's procedures. Officials at the school said the district has also been in contact with the Lake County Health Department.

The school has asked their cleaning staff to be "vigilant" about cleaning bathrooms, classrooms and any other shared common areas around the school. Athletic equipment has also been giving an extra cleaning.

School officials said District 127 policy allows students to come back to school after they have been fever-free for 24 hours with no Tylenol or Motrin.

The school is reminding students about taking preventative measures such as handwashing, reminding them not to share water bottles and to be on the lookout for symptoms of the disease.
