FAIR OAKS, Ind. (WLS) -- A mother of two from west suburban Lombard was struck and killed Monday after pulling over to check a noise her car was making.

Indiana State Police said Nika Trippi, 30, pulled her car over on a shoulder way off the road on Interstate 65 near Fair Oaks, Indiana. When she got out of her car and closed her door, a semi-truck sideswiped her and kept driving.

Her mother and two children were in the car at the time and are uninjured.

Investigators are still looking for the driver that never stopped.

Trippi, an esthetician, was passionate about her profession, and even posted makeup tutorials on YouTube.

"She was amazing at it, one of the best estheticians we've ever had," said Zazu Salon owner Anthony Segretto.

Her friends and coworkers at Zazu Salon in Hinsdale said they are devastated.

"She lived for her children," said Segretto. "That was really her true passion, her two girls."

"She's a mother and I think that's hitting us all horribly knowing she has two little kids at home," said Melissa Spizzirri, a friend of Trippi.

Police said a witness described the semi as a gray older model Freightliner pulling a gray enclosed trailer. Anyone with information can call the Indiana State Police Lowell District at 219-696-6242.
