LOCKPORT, Ill. (WLS) -- The lucky stars for one Chicago Cubs fan seem to be perfectly aligned.

Not only did he get to watch his team come within one win of the World Series, he won $1 million in the process.

Rick Kempke, 56, was at home watching a Cubs game when he scratched a $300,000,000 Cash Spectacular ticket and instantly won.

"I can't believe it! I'm a huge Cubs fan and now that I won the lottery, I might buy a ticket for tomorrow night's game!" Kempke said.

He bought the $10 instant ticket at a Speedway in the 300-block of South State Street in Lockport, the Illinois Lottery said. He opted to receive the one-time payment of $600,000.

Kempke, who has lived in southwest suburban Lockport all his life, retired after working for the Environmental Protection Agency in Willowbrook for 25 years. He told the Illinois Lottery he plans to buy a new car right away - and a new house.

"I really need a new car because mine is 16 years old and not very reliable," Kempke said.

Let's hope Kempke's luck extends to his beloved Cubs this weekend!
