Skydiver dies after hitting billboard in LaSalle Co.

LASALLE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- The DuPage County Coroner's Office and LaSalle County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of a skydiver in unincorporated LaSalle County.

At around 10:21 a.m. Sunday, the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office responded to 3139 Rt. 71 for a report of a skydiver who had collided with a billboard.

Authorities found a man suspended about one foot off the ground from the billboard.

He was then flown by helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he was pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m.

The skydiver was identified as Michael Collins, 48, of Lacon, Illinois.

The preliminary cause of death was listed as massive traumatic injuries associated with the incident. Toxicology tests are pending.
