CHICAGO (WLS) -- Members of the Chicago Teachers Union started voting Monday on the proposed CPS contract.

The union and school district reached a deal earlier this month, narrowly avoiding a teachers' strike.

The four-year contract means about $300 million more for schools, including higher pay for teachers and programs for students.

A simple majority has to vote "yes" for the deal to be approved. Teachers can vote at their schools on Monday and Tuesday.
