Two people were injured when the vehicle they were riding in was struck by a Metra train Tuesday morning in the South Shore neighborhood.

The vehicle was struck by Metra Electric Train No. 319 near 71st and Constance about 11:45 a.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Two people in the vehicle were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle said. Their ages and genders weren't immediately available.

On Tuesday afternoon, Chicago police said the victims were in "good" condition.

Metra is urging commuters to check metrarail.com for updates and to listen to platform announcements.
