BUFFAL GROVE, Ill. --Some members of the Buffalo Grove police department spent the month of November growing facial hair to spread awareness of men's health issues through their involvement in the 'Movember' campaign.
The department's team consists of men and women who want to support men's health issues, according to a statement from Buffalo Grove police. Men are encouraged to grow out their facial hair in the form of mustaches, goatees and well groomed beards in order to draw attention to the Movember cause. Together they've raised over $500 for Movember.
Movember is a campaign to start conversations about men's health such as testicular and prostate cancer and even poor mental health, police said. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of men who die prematurely by 25 percent.
