CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 20-year-old man was killed and a 17-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Monday afternoon in the city's South Shore neighborhood, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 2 p.m. near East 74th and South Shore Drive, police said, about half a block from the lakefront and steps away from popular Arthur Ashe Park. Witnesses say several shots were fired and the 20-year-old was shot multiple times.

"One guy was shooting, shot the one guy and he fell on the ground, and then he actually stood over him and shot him a few more times, and then they kinda all scattered," said Jamal Julien.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

South Shore Drive is closed at 74th Street as of 4 p.m. as police investigate. Evidence technicians are documenting two crime scenes, one outside the park and the other in an alley behind a nearby apartment building.

No children or families were at the park at the time of the shooting, but the brazen daylight violence sent ripples of fear through the neighborhood, which is typically quiet.

"I come home and see squad cars everywhere and I'm a Marine and I feel like I'm more in Afghanistan than I am in Chicago sometimes," said Barry Mixon, who lives in the neighborhood.

No one is in custody at this time.
