CHICAGO (WLS) -- For people who are struggling to get by, a pair of socks can be an important article of clothing in the winter time.

That's why female high school athletes from Chicago donated one thousand pairs of socks to Deborah's Place, a women's shelter on the city's West Side.

Along with the socks the students delivered inspirational messages for the women and a $1,000 dollar check.

The donation was made Wednesday as part of National Get Up Day.
