A 60-year-old factory worker died Wednesday after he was found shot multiple times in his garage in the Little Village neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The man was identified as Jose Correa, according to his family.

"He didn't deserve to die the way he did. He was a hardworking man. He took care of his family for 40 years," said his daughter Adriana Correa.

At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, a neighbor called his wife, Catalina, to tell her that the garage door was open. She then discovered him lying on the floor unresponsive in the garage in the 2700-block of Central Park Avenue.

Correa was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where it was determined that he had been shot three times in the back, neck and mouth. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

No one was immediately in custody. No items appeared to be missing so robbery seems like an unlikely motive, Correa's family said.

"We don't know why it happened. We don't know who did it. We just know he's in a better place now," said his grandson Juan Torres, Jr.

Correa and his wife lived in the home for about 40 years. In June, the couple had planned to have a church ceremony since they didn't have one when they got married 40 years ago.

Catalina Correa said via a translator that she was devastated.

Jose Correa was on his way to his factory job in Melrose Place, where he worked for about 40 years.

"He was just a hardworking man, he was always up at 3 a.m. sharp, going every day, Monday through Friday, to work," Torres said.
