Woman fatally struck by van near Chinatown ID'd; driver cited

A woman was fatally struck by a van Saturday morning near the Chinatown neighborhood on the South Side.

A 2005 Ford van was driving north about 8:10 a.m. in the 1900 block of South Tan Court when it hit the 45-year-old woman, who was crossing the street, according to Chicago Police. The van then hit another vehicle in traffic before coming to a stop.

The woman was identified as Wen Juan Wang, who lived on the same block, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:38 a.m.

The driver, a 48-year-old man, remained at the scene and was cited for failing to exercise die care for a pedestrian in roadway, failure to reduce speed, and operating a vehicle without insurance, police said.
