CHICAGO (WLS) -- A protest over the Laquan McDonald police shooting interrupted the state of a dinner honoring black women Thursday night.

Protesters briefly interrupted the Phenomenal Woman Awards Dinner.

The event came ahead of the Black Women's Expo that opens Friday.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters was the keynote speaker of the event. Chicago Bulls player Dwyane Wade's mother was among the honorees.
