LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Runners are racing through Lake County on May 13, 2017 for the Foodie 5K series. The races benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank, which serves thousands of people across a 13-county area. More than 56,000 residents of Lake County face food insecurity every day, including more than 28,000 children. The goal of the Foodie 5K series is to raise more than $812,000.

The Foodie 5K in Lake County features a chip-timed fun runs/walks open to all ages, food trucks, DJs, and fun for the whole family. But even if you can't make the race, you can still help the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Last year they had more than 31,000 volunteers come to the Food Bank to help sort and pack food to prepare it for distribution to our hungry neighbors. You can also donate directly to the food bank by clicking here. Tiffany King from the Northern Illinois Food Bank joined Eyewitness News live from the Foodie 5K finish line to talk about how you can get involved.
