PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery after a shooting in Palatine on Friday, police said.

Diego Garcia-Cordero has been charged as an adult, according to police.

Two teenage boys were shot outside a clubhouse and sustained non-life threatening injuries Friday morning, police said. The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. in the 1100-block of Randville Drive.

Cell phone video captured neighbors rushing to the aid of both victims after they heard several gunshots.

"I only saw two kids and one was screaming really hard so I grabbed water," Saleha Masood, a woman who helped the victims, said. "I couldn't do much. I didn't have any first aid other than just close the wound, help him out so the blood would stop coming out."

Both victims were shot in the leg. One boy was taken to Northwestern Community Hospital and the other was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the Palatine Fire Department said.

The Palatine Police Department said schools in Districts 15 and 211 were on a soft lockdown during the afternoon due to the shooting.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting or whether the boys were targeted.
