2 women hurt in East Garfield Park crash following police chase

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two women were injured in a crash that followed a police chase in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Officers said they observed a possible drug deal take place in the 3900-block of West Lexington Street around 12:10 a.m. Thursday. They chased after the vehicle involved after the driver sped off.

Police said they called off the chase before the driver allegedly ran a red light and struck a Chevrolet about two blocks away, in the 600-block of South Independence Boulevard.

There were two women in the car that was hit. They were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with minor injuries, where they are listed in good condition.

The 35-year-old suspect was the only person in his vehicle at the time of the crash and was not injured. He was arrested at the scene. Charges are pending.
