2 men shot at Kentucky Fried Chicken on West Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two men, ages 24 and 26, were shot Thursday at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on the city's West Side, officials said.

The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. at a KFC in the 1100-block of South Western Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood.

The men were inside a gray Nissan Infiniti that had just gone through the drive-thru when at least one person walked toward them and fired at least 28 bullets at the vehicle, police said. The shooter fled in a vehicle.

After the shooting, one of the victims got out of the car and entered the restaurant, leaving blood on the sidewalk and door leading inside.

There were customers and employees inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting.

"He didn't know he was shot, but we knew he was shot," said Jaleel Starks, who was in the restaurant. "We said, 'Hey, sit down. You need to sit down before this bullet travels any further.'"

Both men, shot in the collarbone and abdomen respectively, were transported to Stroger Hospital. Their conditions were immediately unknown.
