CHICAGO (WLS) -- Good Morning America went to Guaranteed Rate Field to show Chicago White Sox fans the money!

ABC's Gio Benitez showed fans how to get cash the Illinois Treasury was holding for them.

Members of the state treasurer's office had fans enter their names on its website to see who had unclaimed money. The amount they found raged from $30 to more than $1,000.

The cash could be from paychecks never cashed, rebates lost in the mail or forgotten bank accounts. After three years, the money is turned over to the state. Up to $40 billion dollars remains unclaimed across the nation.

"We find that 1 in 4 people who check our website find they have something that belongs to them. The average amount is $1,000. The largest amount I've personally given back is $1 million dollars," Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs said.
