As weather heats up, city gearing up for big crowds this weekend

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago's beaches will be a go-to spot for people to enjoy the heat this weekend and police are taking extra precautions to keep people safe.

The Office of Emergency Management is preparing for big crowds and will be alert for suspicious activity.

Blues Festival is taking place this weekend as well as the Spring Awakening, an electronic dance music festival, and Northerly Island concerts.

When it comes to the weather, temperatures are climbing into the 90s this weekend, so be smart and be prepared.

"Dress appropriately stay hydrated. you know your body the best if you need to get out of the sun for a while make sure you do," OEMC Managing Director of Operations Richard Guidice.

Officials want everyone to have fun, but to follow the rules including no alcohol on public beaches and police will be checking bags. There have been a few situations that have led to fights and arrests on public beaches in the past and the authorities want to avoid that happening this weekend.
