CHICAGO (WLS) -- People who live in the Chicago area wait all year to get outside and enjoy the summer weather. But when it gets this hot, it can be dangerous.

"It's still a little too early in the summer for me to be complaining. I'm still pretty grateful to be away from the cold days," said Lauren Gordon, in Chicago.

Temperatures were expected Tuesday to soar into the low 90s. Many people tried to beat the heat early, like Sarah Frey, who is training for the Chicago Marathon.

"You need to get out before it gets too hot, because it's really easy to get sunstroke, especially if you're exercising or walking. It's going sneak up on you," Frey said.

People tried to enjoy the lakefront at North Avenue Beach near daybreak, getting in some volleyball before 9 a.m. Will Trogdon just moved to Chicago from Seattle. He said he's not used to the heat, but knew to keep himself hydrated.

"Every day has felt like it's been the hottest day for me. So yeah, just got to drink a lot of water," Trogdon said.

Tuesday is expected to be the Chicago area's fourth day in the 90s since Saturday. Monday topped out at 95 degrees. Parents tried to keep their little ones cool during the heat wave.

"You keep them indoors, preferably somewhere with a park with lots of games. Or you go to some place where there's lots of fun water activities, like a pool," said Lisa Zulanas, a Chicago mother.

It was definitely cooler by Lake Michigan late Tuesday morning, so that could be very helpful when it comes to Movies in the Park and the crowd the event could draw to the Pritzker Pavilion Tuesday evening.

"Blues Brothers," a classic Chicago flick, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. The movie was chosen to kick off the city's Summer Film Series at Millennium Park.
