21-year-old man fatally shot in North Lawndale

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 21-year-old man sitting in the backseat of a car in the North Lawndale neighborhood was fatally shot just after midnight Thursday, police said.

The car was parked in the 1400-block of South Lawndale Avenue on the city's West Side when a gunman ran up to the car and opened fire, police said.

The victim, who was struck in the head, appeared to be the target, police said.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody. Police are investigating.
