Woman, baby ejected from moving car in Old Town

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman and her baby were apparently intentionally thrown from a moving vehicle in the Old Town neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Chicago police said the incident happened a little after 3 p.m. at Blackhawk Street and Cleveland Avenue. Police said a 24-year-old woman was thrown from a car with a baby boy in her arms.

Police said it may have stemmed from a domestic dispute when the woman argued with the driver. She then opened the door and she and the infant were thrown from the car, police said.

A witness said the baby appeared to be just a few months old and suffered various cuts and scrapes. The witness said the driver was traveling east on Blackhawk Street and took a sharp left turn onto Cleveland Avenue at a very high rate of speed.

"Next thing I know, a baby and a woman come throwing out the car. She rose, gets up, comes over here to the sidewalk. So I run across the street. I see there's a baby in her arms. The baby is all bruised up from the pavement," the witness said.

The witness said the driver did not stop and didn't even really pause and continued north. The woman apparently made some statements to people at the scene indicating she knew the driver, who police have identified as being 28-years old.

The baby was transported to Comer Children's Hospital and the woman was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Both are expected to be ok.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
