CHICAGO (WLS) -- June is celebrated as LGBT Pride month, in honor of the Stonewall Riots in New York.

While the biggest marker of the month is the Pride Parade, there is a year-around celebration attached to those giant rainbow pylons the line North Hasted Street.

The Legacy Project was established in October of 2012 to commemorate the life and work of notable lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender individuals whose achievements have helped shape the world, but whose contributions, sexual orientation or gender identity have been overlooked, minimized or redacted entirely from most historic texts.

New this year is a plaque celebrating the Harlem Renaissance.
