CHICAGO (WLS) -- An annual initiative encouraging students to read books over summer vacation is now underway.

Chicago's first lady Amy Rule read to children at the Chicago Public Library in Little Village Wednesday. The CPL and Mayor Rahm Emanuel launched the Rahm's Readers Summer Learning Challenge today.

The initiative is meant to get students to read for at least 20 minutes each day. The program will take place at all 80 public library locations citywide.
