CHICAGO (WLS) -- More than 260 athletes are about to descend on Chicago for the annual Department of Defense Warrior Games. One athlete trained on Monday with actor D.B. Sweeney.

The game kick off Friday and run through July 8. Athletes will compete in events at Soldier Field, the United Center and McCormick Place.

On Monday, actor D.B. Sweeney was training with one of the athletes -- Chicago's Ryan Shannon -- at Bucktown Cross-fit.

"Anytime I can do anything to help and support of the folks, especially those that have been injured, it's to my great honor and I hope a lot of other people in Chicago feel the same way and will come out to the Warrior games the first week of July and support these great athletes," Sweeney said.

A kickoff concert is Saturday at Soldier Field, featuring Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson.

ABC7 is a proud partner of the Warrior Games.
