Man, 59, killed in Hammond hit-and-run

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A 59-year-old man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Hammond, Ind. Saturday night, police said.

The victim was walking west across Columbia Avenue north of 164th Street when he was struck by what witnesses told police as a black, early 2000s Lincoln, possible a Zephyr, that was traveling south on Columbia Avenue. The suspect's car fled the scene west on 164th Street.

The man, identified to the Lake County (Ind.) Coroner's Office as J. Guadalupe Becerra Medina of Hammond, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the Lincoln should have passenger side damage, including damage to the passenger side headlight.
