Art display draws attention to human trafficking
Every year, millions of people are lured and kidnapped into human trafficking schemes. In many cases, the victims are forced into sexual exploitation, forced labor, and more. July 30 is marked as the United Nations' World Day against Trafficking in Persons. The special distinction calls attention to the worldwide problem so that victims are not forgotten in the shadows.
To further demonstrate what many victims experience, local organization Yet She Rise is teaming up with an artist for a visceral exhibit on July 29-30, 2017 in Wicker Park. The display will show young men and women with their mouths taped and hands tied to show what it's like to be kidnapped and held against their will. Cesar Rolon from Yet She Rise and artist Grace Gatto visited ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about human trafficking and what you can do to prevent it.
