R&B singer and songwriter Vivian Green stopped by to talk about her new album and to fill us in on the hottest end of the summer event on the Westside.

The annual Chicago Westside Music Festival will feature performances from Vivian Green, Lil' Mo and Dru Hill Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Douglas Park. Hosted by Leon Rogers, WSMF will also include Chicago talent performing in various genres. All of the festival events are free and open to the public. The annual summer festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Adult contemporary R&B vocalist Vivian Green grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she started singing at an early age. She began playing the piano at age eight and writing songs when she was 11. At 13, she joined a girl group called Younique. At 15, she began to record at multi-platinum group Boyz II Men's studio and received her first professional songwriting credit co-writing the song 'Dear God' on their platinum album Evolution. She spent her teens writing, sending out demos, and singing wherever she could. Her break came when she was hired as a backup singer for Jill Scott, who took her on tour internationally. That connection eventually led to record company interest, and she signed to Columbia in November 2001. The following year, she released her debut album, "A Love Story," which featured the hit single "Emotional Rollercoaster." Her 2015 release 'Vivid' garnered her latest hit 'Get Right Back to my Baby' and reached #2 on the R&B charts. Currently, her new single 'I Don't Know' is on her 6th album due in September.

In May 2005, Vivian reached number 18 on the Billboard chart. In 2004 she gave birth to her son Jordan. She is also an advocate for children with special needs and is pushing her #IAmDifferentIAmHuman PSA campaign.
