23-year-old woman killed in Waukegan hit-and-run
Waukegan police said 23-year-old Reven Stevens was struck and killed in a hit-and-run early Friday morning.

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- Waukegan police said 23-year-old Reven Stevens was struck and killed in a hit-and-run early Friday morning.

Police responded around 6 a.m. to a report of a woman lying in the street near the intersection of Dugdale Road and 10th Street. She was taken to Vista East Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe Stevens was walking northbound on Dugdale when she was struck and dragged between 5:45 and 6 a.m. Stevens' mother, Dedra Redmond, said her daughter was on her way to work at a temp agency.

"That's an area that's not very well lit and there are not sidewalks in that area," said Cmdr. Joe Florip, Waukegan police.

Friends said Stevens had been walking with a colleague.

"He tried to run and catch up with her and wound up tripping over her body," said Chantell Brown.

Investigators are canvassing the area for video footage that may have captured the crash. They are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have information about the vehicle involved to contact Lt. Ed Fitzgerald at 847-599-2631.

Her mother, in the meantime, is left without her determined young daughter who friend said escaped West Side violence only to die from a driver who didn't even stop to help her.
