1 dead, 6 wounded in West Pullman shooting
Seven people were shot, one fatally, outside a Far South Side event center Sunday.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A shooting left one dead and six wounded in the West Pullman neighborhood Sunday morning, police said.

The shooting occurred outside the Universal Entertainment Center at about 2:30 a.m. outside a banquet hall in the 11900-block of South Loomis Avenue. Police said someone inside a black SUV opened fire and shot seven people in the banquet hall parking lot before speeding off.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities have not released his age or identity.

Six people, three men and three women ranging in age from 30 to 36, were wounded in the shooting and hospitalized in stable condition.

"In other cities, it would be a big event, but in Chicago, seven people shot, one dead in once scene...it's a day at the office, it's a typical weekend," said community activist Dr. Donovan Price.

Police are investigating and no one is in custody.
