DIXMOOR, Ill. (WLS) -- Police in south suburban Dixmoor say they are investigating the death of a man found inside a home on Thursday night.

Dixmoor Police have officially called the death of 41-year-old Michael Davis a murder investigation.

Crime tape was wrapped around this fence at a home on West 141th Street near Page Avenue.

An Illinois State Police crime scene investigation car was parked out front all day on Friday as neighbors walked by, curious and concerned as to what happened.

"This community is a small-knit family-oriented community," said neighbor Wendy Casey.

According to the medical examiner's office, police found Davis's body around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

"He seemed like a pretty stand-up guy," said neighbor Latora Perkins.

Latora Perkins lives across the street from Davis's home. She said she got several calls about police near her house on Thursday night.

"Neighbors just called me and was asking where I am at and I told them I was at work and was like well there was a lot of police around the house," said Perkins.

On Friday, investigators called Davis's death a homicide and say he was found with gunshot wound and blunt force injuries to his head.

Davis's neighbor said he was a quiet man, mostly kept to himself and that he moved to the neighborhood a few years ago.
