IL ed secretary explains school funding bill
Illinois Education Secretary Beth Purvis joined ABC7 Eyewitness News to explain more about what the school funding bill will do.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner is expected to sign Thursday an education bill that would steer more state money toward low-income school districts.

Illinois Education Secretary Beth Purvis joined ABC7 Eyewitness News to explain more about what the school funding bill, passed Tuesday by the Senate, will do.

The state would make a bigger contribution toward Chicago teacher pensions, but the deal also lets the Chicago Board of Education raise property taxes.

Some critics are angry over millions in tax credits that would be given to people who donate to private school scholarships.
