14-year-old boy shot in the abdomen in South Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 14-year-old boy suffered a gunshot to the abdomen Tuesday afternoon in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The shooting happened at 5:02 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Manistee, according to Chicago Police. Police said the teen was on the sidewalk when he was approached on foot by someone, who pulled out a gun and fired shots.

The teen was shot in the stomach and leg and taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition.

Area Central detectives are investigating the shooting. No one is in custody. Police said the victim is a documented gang member.
