A close call captured on surveillance video after an 83-year-old driver makes a big mistake at Salon Fusion in Wilmette.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Surveillance video shows a car crashing into a Wilmette hair salon Wednesday afternoon while about 30 people were inside.

The 83-year-old driver was parked in the handicap space at Salon Fusion on 108 Skokie Blvd. when she hit the gas instead of the breaks and the car then came through the reception area and one worker was pinned in by the car.

"We heard this loud rush, honestly I thought it was a bomb, and then whoever was in the car just plowed through the front window," Cathi Borushek, a witness, said. "She was going really fast. And it was over in like two seconds."

The owners say they're lucky no one was killed.

"We heard a loud bang, I turned around to the right and see a vehicle come crashing in through the salon and as I followed it in, you can see it literally going through the front desk and also going almost into our spa area," Giussepe, the salon owner said.

The elderly driver and two workers went to the hospital but were not seriously injured.

"Were very lucky no one was killed," Wilmette Fire Chief, Mike McGreal, said. "The store was full. We did have people sitting in front who had just got up for their appointment."

The salon has only been in its location for seven months. The owners plan to have the salon back open Thursday.

Two other cars crashed into buildings in the Chicagoland area.
