3 killed, 15 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

Two men were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head in a Little Village auto body shop Saturday.

Three people were killed and at least 15 others have been wounded in citywide shootings since Friday evening.

In the latest fatal shooting, two men were killed in a Little Village neighborhood auto shop on the Southwest Side. Officers responding to a call of a person shot at 5:49 p.m. in the 3300-block of South Lawndale Avenue found 56-year-old Gilberto Casteneda and a 33-year-old man unresponsive with gunshot wounds to their heads, according to Chicago police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. Casteneda's home address wasn't immediately known.

Earlier Saturday, a 51-year-old man was was shot to death while driving in the South Side Longwood Manor neighborhood. About 3:50 p.m., Elliott Marshall was driving north in the 9500-block of South Vincennes when a vehicle pulled up next to him and someone inside fired shots, authorities said. Marshall was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 4:12 p.m. He lived in the Brainerd neighborhood.

The weekend's most recent non-fatal shooting occurred Sunday night in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the Far South Side.

A 20-year-old man was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain at 11:52 p.m. in the 800-block of East 130th, according to Chicago police.

He was shot in the left shoulder, police said.

The man took himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About a half hour earlier, a man was shot in the right leg in the Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 27-year-old man was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the right leg about 11:25 p.m. in the 10000-block of S. Emerald, according to Chicago police.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where his condition was stabilized. He would not provide further details about the shooting, police said.

No one was in custody as Area South detectives were investigating.

Another shooting left a man wounded Sunday evening on the Kennedy Expressway at the merge. About 7:45 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot several times while he was riding in a car, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At least 12 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend.

In addition, a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot his 9-year-old cousin Saturday morning in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Last weekend, a man was killed and nine others were wounded in shootings across Chicago.
