CHICAGO (WLS) -- Four people were injured- one seriously- when an aerosol can ruptured before an employee breakfast at the flagship Macy's store on State Street in Chicago's Loop.

Chicago fire officials said workers were setting up for the pancake breakfast when the aerosol got too close to a cook stove. The heat caused it to rupture and spray.

A woman who received facial burns was transported to the hospital in serious condition. Three men with minor injuries were also taken to hospitals. They are expected to be treated and released.

"On the lower level, they were cooking, and apparently an aerosol can got a little too close to the heating element and it exploded," Chief Elliott Velez, Chicago Fire Department, said.

The store was closed at the time of the incident, but opened for business by 10:30 a.m. Dozens of emergency crews responded. Chicago police, fire and paramedic vehicles briefly blocked off Randolph Street from Lake Street to Wabash Avenue.

Macy's was cited for improper storage and use of butane in Friday's incident.
