52 pounds of marijuana uncovered during I-80 traffic stop, police say

MORRIS, Ill. (WLS) -- Police uncovered 52 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on I-80 near Morris, officials said.

Richard Bird, of Marion, was pulled over by police in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Route 47 for an alleged failure to signal on Nov. 6 around 1:12 p.m., police said.

Upon further investigation, police allegedly uncovered the marijuana, which has an estimated street value of $500,000, officials said.

Bird was arrested and charged with possession and intent to deliver, and later posted bond.
