7 hospitalized after minivan rear-ended on I-290 near Elk Grove Village

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WLS) -- A two-car crash on I-290 sent seven people to the hospital near Elk Grove Village, officials said.

Six of the people were traveling in a minivan in the southbound lanes of the expressway near Biesterfield Road Saturday when the van was rear-ended at a high rate of speed, police said.

The car that hit the minivan then burst into flames, although the driver escaped, police said.

No serious injuries were reported. The people in the minivan were reportedly traveling for spring break.
