PALOS PARK, Ill. -- A 70-year-old woman died Saturday evening after she was struck by a Jeep in southwest suburban Palos Park.

Sonja M. Klein was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo at West 131st Street and South 86th Avenue in Palos Park, according to the Cook County medical examiner's and sheriff's offices.

The driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old Oak Forest man, was driving east on 131st Street and approaching the intersection with 86th Avenue when Klein stepped into the street, the sheriff's office said. Klein was crossing 131st Street headed south when she was struck. A doctor who was in the area performed CPR on Klein until paramedics arrived.

Klein, who lived nearby in the 13100 block of South 86th Avenue in Palos Park, was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died at 6:08 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner's office.

An autopsy Sunday found she died of blunt force injuries from being struck by the Jeep, and her death was ruled an accident.

The driver of Jeep stopped and waited for police, the sheriff's office said. No charges or citations were issued as of Sunday night.
