9 arrested in connection with theft ring netting $21,000 in merchandise

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Nine people were arrested Friday in connection with a theft ring netting $21,000 in merchandise from various retail stores.

Police said the offenders would allegedly arrive at stores in vans with bags, fill them and leave without paying. Police say these incidents are not related to the recent smash-and-grab robberies.

Michael Shaw, 40; Tabitha Jones, 25; Lonyae Barr, 21; Dartanya Banks, 33; Kiara Jefferson, 21; Ernestine Lucas, 64; Nicole Lucas, 33; Tenisha Triplett 29; and Derrell Cooper, 21 all face felony theft charges.

Police are continuing to investigate.
