ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Police lapel video and 911 calls offer a glimpse of the moments immediately after a cherry picker came crashing down in southwest Albuquerque last month, KOAT-TV reports.
Police said business owner and father Ken Raschick took four young children up for a ride in a cherry picker. A gust of wind brought it crashing down with all five inside. Raschick, his nephew and his son died. The two survivors are still recovering at the hospital.
It was a chaotic scene as police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at a business on Acoma Road in Albuquerque. Several neighbors called 911 to report the accident.
"A tree lift has fallen over with three children, four children and one adult."
"There's three children, there's four children and one guy and they're really, really, small."
While paramedics helped the injured, police worked to figure out what went wrong 60 feet in the air.
"He had his children up at the extension of that lift, and a gust of wind came."
"The kids are basically breathing, but very little on two of them, and Ken's not breathing."
Raschick died on the scene. His 12-year-old nephew died at the hospital. Kevin, 7, Raschick's youngest son, died days later. His 10-year-old son Bobby survived, along with neighborhood friend Zander Rutherford. Both boys are still recovering from their injuries.
